Team India Lifts the 2011 Cricket world Cup
April 2, Mumbai: Team India creates History, Wins 2011 Cricket World Cup.
It was India’s night. It was India’s day. The whole stadium erupts with joy amid crackers and tears as India creates landmark in the history of cricket. The Mahendra Singh Dhoni led India cricket team created history in the Wankhede stadium by winning the ICC Cricket World Cup for the second time after a gap of 28 years. For India’s most celebrated cricketer of all time Sachin Tendulkar, it was a dream come true. The India team carried Sachin Tendulkar on its head across the stadium as the whole country erupted into joy.

The Indian team scored 277 runs while chasing 275 by Sri Lankans with 10 balls remaining. In a true battle of nerves, India held patience to beat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets. Earlier batting first the Sri Lankan team powered by a magnificent century by Mahela Jaywardane set a target of 275 in fifty overs for India to chase. The Sri Lankan team looked shaky in the beginning scoring 31 runs in 10 overs losing one wicket. But in the last power play the Sri Lankans hit 63 runs.

The Indian innings began on a shaky note with Virendra Sehwag declared lbw on the very second bowl of the first over bowled by Lasith Malinga. Tendulkar looked good but he was caught behind the wicket by Sangakkara on 18. Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir played with patience to put India in a comfortable situation before Dhoni went smashing the Lankans. Gambhir top scored in the Indian chase scoring 97 runs. An emotional Gambhir said that the World Cup goes to the people of India and especially to Sachin Tendulkar.

The Indian Captain peaked at the right time today scoring a scintillating inning of 91 runs on 79 balls which included 8 fours and two huge sixes. The winning run came with Dhoni smashing six of Kulasekara.

The Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was adjudged the Man of the Match for his terrific innings. Yunvraj Singh got the Man of the Series award for his terrific effort with the bat, ball and on the field as a fielder.

The BCCI has announced an award of Rs. 1 crore for each member of the Indian Cricket team. The richest board of the world has also announced Rs. 50 Lakh for the coach. The support staff will get Rs. 25 lakh each.

It was a dream of Sachin Tendulkar to have this metal in his kitty. Tendulkar said it was the proudest moment of his life. For him this couldn’t have been better than winning the World Cup of Cricket on his home ground. The little master smiles and many players including Harbhajan Singh and Yunvraj Singh could be seen in all tears as India erupted with joy and passion.

It’s Diwali all across India as the country celebrates its second Cricket World Cup for 1983.

World Cup final stakes: Rs 50,000 crore and counting      Top
April 1, MUMBAI: The underground betting syndicate is in a frenzy over the India-Sri Lanka cricket World Cup final here on Saturday. A mind-boggling sum of Rs 50,000 crore (over $11 billion) is at stake on the final showdown, sources said.

If the punters are to be believed, India are a clear favourites at 46 paise against Sri Lanka's Rs 1.38.

In simple parlance, if one bets Re 1 on India and it wins, the better gets his rupee back plus 46 paise. For a rupee bet on Sri Lanka, and it wins, the return would be a whopping Rs 2.38.

Reliable sources said that betting reached a feverish pitch when India beat Pakistan in the semifinal at Mohali on Wednesday to book seat in the finals.

The amount could go up substantially depending on who wins the toss and elects to bat or bowl, sources said.

The bookies have also bet on players hitting a century at the final. The chance that an Indian player hits a ton has been pegged at 78 paise.

Among the players, Sachin Tendulkar is considered the best bet for hitting a half century at 90 paise, but a whopping Rs 5 for a century.

Virender Sehwag is next on the list for scoring a century at Rs 5.50 and Rs 1.05 for a half century.

Similarly, Gautam Gambhir's chances of hitting a century are pegged at Rs 6.00, but Rs 1.10 for a half century.

Next on the punters' list is Yuvraj Singh who stands at Rs 6.20 for a century and Rs 1.25 for a half century.

The sources said that this time, all betting is done through Goa and Gujarat using high-end laptops and mobiles.

"This time, Mumbai and rest of Maharashtra is out of the circuit for operating the business because of so many VVIPs, foreign dignitaries and multi-agencies security on land, in the air and at sea," a source said. (TOI)

The bets are being placed round-the-clock and rates keep changing all the time, he said.

India beats Pakistan, reaches Finals!      Top
March 30, Mohali: A billion people can exhale. India have won their cricket World Cup semi final match against arch-rivals Pakistan by 29 runs. Misbah Ul Haq was the last man out on the last but one ball of the Pakistan innings. Sachin Tendulkar (85 runs) was Man of the Match.

Before that, on the day that they were playing one of their most crucial matches, some Men in Blue who had a point to prove came good. Ashish Nehra, much reviled a few matches ago, had Umar Gul leg before wicket to grab his second wicket and bring Pakistan to 208 for 9. A few balls before that, Wahab Riaz, the man who played a stellar role taking 5 wickets to restrict India, was the 8th Pakistan wicket to fall. He too fell to Ashish Nehra with Sachin Tendulkar taking the catch. Nehra, written off by experts at the beginning of the match, was also the most economical of Indian bowlers.

But the celebrations, at first cautious, had already begun at the PCA stadium in Mohali much earlier when Munaf Patel dismissed Abdul Razzak for 3 to get India its sixth wicket. And then skipper Shahid Afridi fell for 19 (of 17 balls). Caught Sehwag, bowled Harbhajan. Pakistan 184 for 7.

Indian bowlers shared the spoils - Harbhajan Singh, Munaf Patel, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra and Yuvraj Singh took two apiece.

Munaf Patel got his second wicket of the match in Razzak. Under universal attack for his performance in previous matches, Patel too had a point to prove.

As did local lad Yuvraj Singh who scored a duck, out first ball, during what has to be one of the most crucial matches he has ever played. So he struck with the ball, bowling Asad Shafiq and then scalping Younis Khan in the very next over to get India firmly back in the game.

Soon after, Harbhajan Singh bowled danger man Umar Akmal for 29, with Pakistan looking less than sure at 142 for 5, chasing India's 260 for 9. And India looked in with a very good chance defend its not-so-big-a- score in the second semi-final of the cricket World Cup?

Pakistan began their chase steadily, losing its first wicket only after it had put 44 runs on the board. Since then, openers Kamran Akmal and Mohammad Hafeez fell, and then Yuvraj Singh struck.

On the sidelines of the nail-biting match, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a dinner meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Briefing newspersons after the dinner meet, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said sporting contact epitomizes people to people contact. The two Prime Minsters discussed a wide range of issues, and Rao spoke of the 'Mohali spirit' in India-Pakistan relations.

The India innings saw as much drama as possible in 50 overs. And much of that drama revolved around Sachin Tendulkar, who led a charmed life on his way to 85, surviving two close appeals and four dropped catches before being caught by Shahid Afridi, bowled Saeed Ajmal. Too soon for comfort, skipper MS Dhoni, at 25, fell to Wahab Riaz.

Dhoni was Riaz's fourth scalp; he ended with five. Yuvraj Singh was out on a duck, first ball to Wahab Riaz too. Riaz also got the wickets of Virat Kohli and Zaheer Khan.

The sub-continent came to a standstill as national anthems played and India won the toss and chose to bat first against Pakistan in the second semi-final of the cricket World Cup.

When Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag walked out to bat, almost 28,000 voices rose as one to cheer. A few hours into the match, the cricket has been exciting. There was a collective sigh of disappointment as Virender Sehwag got out after a blistering innings, there were two back-to-back heart-in-the-mouth moments as Sachin survived two close appeals and reviews. Pakistan also dropped him at score 27, 45, 70 and 81. Before finally catching him at 85.

Before Sachin, the dismissal of Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli and Yuvraj in rapid succession already had the match in balance. Sachin and Dhoni attempted to rebuild but the tumble continued after Tendulkar's departure. Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and then finally Ashish Nehra, run out on the penultimate ball, fell at regular intervals.

Celebrities, politicos, industrialists are mere fans
Among those on the edge of their Mohali stadium seats are Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and wife, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul Gandhi, daughter Priyanka Gandhi with her husband Robert Vadra. The Speaker of the Lok Sabha Meira Kumar is there as are a number of ministers. Rahul Gandhi watched the slog overs of the India innings from a non-VIP stand.

The Ambani brothers, Mukesh and Anil, are at the PCA stadium with their families and Kingfisher Airlines owner Vijay Mallya is watching with son Sidharth.

Aamir Khan and director wife Kiran Rao are representing Bollywood. Also Rahul Bose, Vivek Oberoi and Dino Morea watching some live action at Mohali.

Cricket Dinner Diplomacy
To cheer the Pakistan team, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has led a large delegation to Mohali. The two Prime Ministers met the teams at the PCA stadium before the start of the match.

Mr Gilani, accompanied by his wife Fauzia, was received at the defence airport by Union Minister of State for Communication, Sachin Pilot, and Pakistan's High Commissioner, Shahid Malik, among others.

Before leaving Islamabad for India, Mr Gilani thanked Dr Singh for inviting him to the match, and said that he's "looking forward to a great game." He also said he believes "this match will bridge the gap" between India and Pakistan.

The large delegation accompanying Mr Gilani includes controversial Interior Minister Rehman Malik, who publicly warned his country's cricket team against match-fixing, provoking fierce criticism both within and outside Pakistan. The team is using the Taj hotel in Chandigarh as its base.

Team Singh will include Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon. Congress party president Sonia Gandhi, as well as Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi are not part of the official delegation but are attending the game. They are also attending the dinner that Dr Singh is hosting for the Pakistani delegation at the stadium.

Last week, in a move that surprised many, Dr Singh formally invited Mr Gilani and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari to watch the match with him. Mr Gilani accepted the invitation over the weekend.

1st Innings : IND 260/9 in 50 overs, Cur RR: 5.20

India Scored 260 runs, exactly the target set by Australia for India in Quarter Finals. It is a tight situation for India. Wahab Riaz's superub bowling with 5 wickets for 46 Runs collapsed India's top order. India should bowl extra carefully and fielding should be tight to control Pakiststan now.

Its going to be a intense and intersting innings ahaed!

All top order batsman of India are out, just scoring around 200 altogether. It is a very bad situation for Team India, with all top order out, only Raina who is batsman is at greace now . Got another 6 overs to go and India has to at least cross 300 mark to give a good fight in this match against Pakistan. Pakistan's Wahab Riaz bowling was outstanding today taking Yuvraj Out for a Duck, and 4 wickets as of now. India is clean blowled for Rias spell today.

Indian Bats Men expect Sachin, performed below expectations on their Big Day! .With score like this it will be very hard to control Pakistan in their 2nd Innings until some magic happens today!

Millions of India Fans are tight lipped, dull and feeling regretted to leave everything today for sake watching this Match!

Off course, One has to wait until the end on a day like this to Judge cause everything can change in an over!
